With China’s rapid economic development and the feature of cheap, wide range of applications and energy saving, the sales of micro-car is increasing year by year. There are problems such as increasing environmental protection and energy shortages intensify, as well as people’s requirement of automotive production the performance so that it is a trend in the future to enhance and improve the product power, safety and comfort. As a major part of the micro-axle vehicle power transmission system, the performance of drive axle directly affects the quality of the vehicle. The hypoid gear failure is a major factor in drive axle fault; hypoid gear is the main source of vehicle vibration and noise sources. Therefore, the design and optimization of micro-car hypoid gear is important to improve vehicle performance.The meshing characteristics of hypoid gears should be considered in the design phase of drive axle products. In the premise that meets the technical requirements of product design we can optimize design of gear. Based on gear engagement principle, we can reduce the dynamic incentive, control the vibration and optimize the quality of the gear. Usual way is to improve dynamic performance of hypoid gear so that the noise performance of drive axle products can meet the requirements. All design and optimize have great significance for noise reduction of cars.To reduce noise and vibration of drive axle, the article designs and optimizes the parameters of hypoid gear. At the same time, gear fault detection system is developed to diagnose the quality of the designed gears. The main works are:1. The structures, function and its characteristic of the driving axle are introduced. The classification and characteristics of the gear in axle is shown. Then the function of the tooth surface parameters and analysis methods of the results are reviewed for the hypoid gear which is chosen for the driving axle. Then detail description on the function and method of application for the software named Gleason Spiral Bevele/Hypiod Gear Design, which is chosen to design the hypoid gear, is presented.2. Gear fault detection theory and methods are analyzed and realized, including timedomain analysis theory, frequency domain analysis theory and modern analysis such as wavelet packet theory.3. According to the design requirements of the hypoid pear of driving axle for CN100-type mini-car, hypoid pair of gears is designed with Gleason software for gear design and analysis. Then the work on the analysis of the transmission performance for the gear train with MASTA is done to provide suggest for the optimization of the hypoid gear pair.4. A hypoid fault detection system is designed and developed. In the process of the development, the structure and processes of the detection system is analyzed, the main modules such as initialization parameter module and data processing module are described. In the end, the designed hypoid gear is tested and the result is receivable.
