Exhibition buildings are places for cultural shows, and their intermediary spaces are important parts for guiding people to entering cultural exhibition spaces from urban surroundings, which entail research significance. By methods of observing the behavior of visitors, questionnaire survey, and other research methods, the thesis has aimed to analyze the visitors’ behavior characteristics and psychological feeling of space in the exhibition building intermediary space, and to further explore the relevant design strategies for exhibition building intermediary spaces. The thesis is divided into four parts:The first part defines the exhibition building and some relevant concepts of intermediary space, and then classifies the exhibition building space agency and describes the elements of the exhibition building intermediary space, functional properties and spatial qualities. The second part is on case-research, namely, conducting case-study on Shanghai Long Art Museum, Shanghai Himalayan Cultural Arts Center, Zhejiang Art Museum, and Suzhou Museum using method of behavioral observation. By quantitative statistics, distribution of species in space and the space flow streamline are recorded. And by comparing of the four cases, the thesis aims to explore the correlation between the spatial characteristics and behavior. The third part falls into two sections. Firstly, Shanghai Long Art Museum, Shanghai Himalayan Cultural Arts Center, Zhejiang Art Museum, and Suzhou Museum, the four cases are studied through SD statutory quantities for psychological evaluation of the use of the effect, and secondly, using factor analysis with Spss statistical software to calculate the main factors affecting human psychological experience in the intermediary space of exhibition building, thus completing the process of quantitative evaluation analysis in an intermediary exhibition space environment. The fourth part, based on research of the foregoing, elaborates relevant suggestions on design strategies for Exhibition building intermediary space environment.By studying these four parts, the article, starting from the perspective of behavioral psychology, aims to analyze the relationship between the environment and the needs of users through case-study of four museums -- Shanghai Long Art Museum, Shanghai Himalayan Cultural Arts Center, Zhejiang Art Museum, Suzhou Museum, and the research result can be a reference data for this type of space research.
