In the 21 st century, due to the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) technology application, rapid development of digital signal processing(DSP) technology, as well as power line communications(PLC) modem chips appeared in large numbers, making PLC technology in the low voltage distribution network applications made unprecedented breakthrough. In the environment of PLC technology has develop rapidly, construction of smart grid also have a deeper development. With further smart grid construction, modern grid put forward higher requirements to the communication technology, traditional narrowband PLC technology because of the low rate and the weak anti-jamming capability and cannot meet the needs of smart grid construction. PLC technology is one of the key technologies of smart grid, and smart grid relies heavily on the development of PLC technology. Therefore we need to develop high-speed, anti-interference ability of PLC technology to promote the construction and development of the smart grid.OFDM is a multi-carrier modulation technique, characteristics of using mutually orthogonal sub-channel signal transmission, and inserting a cyclic prefix is in the signal that can well resist channel narrowband interference and frequency-selective fading, and is very suitable for applications in the field of power line communication. G3-PLC is a narrowband power line communication standard for the smart grid, using OFDM modulation technology, built-in error correction mechanism and efficient channel coding technology, provides high-speed and reliable data transmission.This paper, firstly, introduces the low voltage power line communication and briefly describes the current research background and social significance of the subject, following detailed description about its historical development, domestic and specific research applications and related communications specifications that application of Power Line Communication in the field of low-voltage distribution network.Secondly, in-depth researches and analyzes the transmission characteristics and noise characteristics of the low voltage power line channel. With a comprehensive understanding of the various features of low-voltage power line channel, choosing OFDM as the core narrowband modulation techniques in design of the low-voltage power line communications module. And then studies the advantages, disadvantages, basic principles and key technologies. Later Uses MATLAB for OFDM system simulation, providing a theoretical basis to OFDM system which based on DSP, and choosing the low-voltage power line communication standard narrowband ——G3-PLC to support this issue design in the protocol.Finally, MATLAB simulation results as the theoretical basis for the design work in a narrow band of low-voltage power line communications module. This module uses TI’s C2000 series DSP processing chip——TMS320F069 as the core processor, and uses the Analog Front-End chip——AFE031 as an analog front-end signal processing, to complete hardware design. After several modifications and debugging, this module achieved data transmission that is real-time, bidirectional, high-speed, reliable and stable, using DSP in low-voltage power line.
