The present situation and the application prospect of the medium voltage power line carrier communication (MV-PLC) system are discussed in this thesis; the technology characteristic and problem of medium voltage power line carrier communication are introduced; the feasibility and advantage of the application of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology in medium power line carrier communication are analyzed. According to the present development situation, the technology advantage of the modem chip development based on OFDM technology for medium power line carrier communication is indicated. According to the structure of medium voltage networks in operation in china, based on the current studies, the signal transmission characteristic of the medium voltage power line is analyzed in this thesis, including input impedance, attenuation and noise disturbance. The fundamental principle and the key technology of OFDM are expounded, and the model and parameter selecting principle of OFDM system are analyzed. According to the noise disturbance characteristic, the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) implementation scheme of MV-PLC modem chip based on OFDM is proposed, and the fixed-point simulation model of the system is established with MATLAB. The optimum parameters of the system designed are described after the analysis based on the fixed point simulation result. The FPGA implementation structure (described with Verilog HDL) of some modules (include IFFT/FFT, DUC and synchronization modules) are showed, and the function simulations of these modules are finished.The front-end simulation of the whole system designed is done with EDA tools under the test bench set up. Using the environment of low voltage power line channel, the test of the system is done on the FPGA board, and the result of the test is analyzed.
