With the rapid development of economy, China has been the world’s second largest economy and the second largest consumer of oil country. Nowadays, China needs to consume 450 to 500 million tons of oil per year and the oil imports are expected up to 450 million tons by 2020. At the same time, China is a very rich agricultural, forestry biomass resources country. Only the yield of straw is up to 700 million tons every year. Researching and developing how using compressing to convert biomass into such a wealth of high-quality, clean and convenient energy has become a serious problem. There are practical significances to make up for the shortage of oil and save the national energy security. The ring molding machines are widely used when compressing the agricultural and forestry wastes into biomass briquettes, because of no heating, a high compression density, and a good molding effect and so on. But ring molding machines have other disadvantages:high energy consumption, low yield, easy to wear mold, replacement being inconvenient, short life and high maintenance costs. According to the above disadvantages, the paper aims at to design a new vertical double raceway ring-die biomass densification molding machine on the basis of studying the biomass formation mechanism and influencing factors of molding process. On the basis of fully collecting relevant literature and market research, the paper defines the machine design and construction. By establishing a ring molding machine energy model, the paper determines the motor power. By studying the compression ratio on product density, yield and energy consumption, the paper determines the structural parameters of the mold. The new machine has many features:the high productivity ratio, the easy replacement of the mold, the good serviceability and long working life.Through the SolidWorks, the paper will produce 3D models of the key machine parts and components, and then assemble the whole machine. After assembling the machine, the paper conduct static and dynamic interference detection and find it well assembled. Using the ANSYS Workbench 12.0 to make a static finite element analysis to the machine mold and prove that the mold can meet the strength and stiffness requirements. At the same time, the paper makes a modal analysis to the pressure roller and finds no resonance phenomenon when the machine is working. Besides, the paper makes a multi-modal analysis to the pressure roller and provides some theoretical basis to optimize the vertical double raceway ring-die biomass densification molding machine.
