Cutterhead is the research focus in the field of our country’s equipment design and manufacture, with the development of the tunnel and underground space, shield tunneling construction technology has been widely used. At present, there is not a complete design theory or process for cutterhead system design in our country yet, and there is no design standard to follow. Moreover, there are great differences between the designed cutterheads even under the same kind of geology if different methods are used, thus, when facing different styles of cutterhead that serve the same kind of geology, how to evaluate and analysis is a hot spot and difficult point. This paper- funded by the National Natural Science Fund “The dynamic interaction mechanism of action of the cutterhead and rock and soil and the design theory of the cutterhead system(51105048)”, aiming at researching of cutterhead design theory and method of evaluation, completes the main work as follows:1. Basing on 7D Design Planning which facing system design, making an overall plan for cutterhead design and evaluation process. Making external planning from two aspects, which are design ideas and design environment; establishing the design objects to meet the functions and tunneling performances of cutterhead; making design steps which meet “needs of user- functions- performances- evaluation” process; to determine the design contents from the point of cutterhead function and that of design flow; choosing appropriate design methods; planning the evaluation of cutterhead from the aspect of design quality assessment.2. Determine the sequence of cutterhead design steps according to the defined order of the factors which affect the structural parameters and control parameters of cutterhead, using theoretical analysis method to do quantitative design for cutterhead structure, cutters layout and control parameters etc. Choosing soil discharging rate, life of cutters, torque of cutterhead, structural strength as performance indicators on behalf of the shield machine’s performance, to establish the shield machine cutterhead design flow for tunneling performance on meeting the performance requirements.Then designing a cutterhead for a practical engineering section by using the design flow.3. A evaluation model is established by using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Selecting performance indicators as evaluation basis, and determine the importance degree of each performance indicator by using Delphi method, then obtain fuzzy evaluation vector. Using simulation software to analyze and simulate, the evaluation matrix of performance indicators are obtained according to the simulation results. Operating the fuzzy evaluation vector and the evaluation matrix by using four kinds of fuzzy operators, then the final evaluation results of cutterhead tunneling performance are obtained.
