The Research And Comparison Of Pumi And Lisu Traditional Dwelling In Yunnan

Under constant impact of globalization, traditional dwellings tend to be replaced by modern architectures characterized by "absence of ethnicity and regionality". The ethnic characteristics on dwellings have been endangered, with no exception for traditional dwelling of Pumi and Lisu. How to reasonably and efficiently protect traditions and its ethnic cultures has become the current buzzing topic. However, before coming up with and implementing the protection and renovation methods, there is a crucial and important step which consists in exploring, analyzing and summarizing characteristics of traditional dwellings, systematical formation mechanism and inner factors influencing its development.The growth, evolution and development of traditional dwellings proceeded under the mutual dominance and influence of "regional factors" and "ethnic factors". This process retained gene characteristics of the ethnic its own and also was influenced by numerous "recessive factors". This thesis takes traditional dwellings which were located in major habitation of Pumi and Lisu of Yunnan Province and possessed typical regional ethnic characteristics as its research object, uses regionality analysis that composed like climate, environment between people and nature and ethnic analysis that includes of ethnic, religion between people and society as its penetration point and research methods, carried out research and comparison from such two aspects as "one minority living in diverse settlements" and "one settlement with different minorities live in", employs "comparison" as its key research method and conduct analysis and research through the combination of such subjects as ekistics, environment behavior study, regional architecture, psychology and geography.This thesis concluded different forms, structures and characteristics of dwellings by carrying out research and analysis of dwellings of Pumi and Lisu. Through comparison of different dwelling forms and structures of two ethnicities, this thesis explored reasons for generation of diversities. Then, this thesis analyzed similarities, differences, "dominant factors" as well as "recessive factors" which dominated and influenced the development of traditional dwellings of the two ethnicities during the process of growth and evolution by comparing traditional dwellings of the two ethnicities and the two ethnicities with other ethnicities living in "the same region". Moreover, this thesis systematically combed the system formation mechanism of different dwelling forms and structures of two ethnicities (i.e. inner order, gene, intelligence system and pattern language), organized and summarized the illustrative map which analyzed various "dominant and recessive factors". The purpose is that provided valuable theoretical reference for effective inheritance and protection of the dwelling diversity of Yunnan minor ethnicity and finally considered over the protection and renovation of traditional dwellings of the two ethnicities.
