Since China’s reform and opening up, along with the sustainable development of national economy and people’s living standard, The requirements for environmental quality of people is also increasing.As a result,the urban infrastructure and public space are continuously improving and enhancing.Square, as a center of traffic, business and cultural activities, is the highlight of urban landscape nodes. But under the impact of globalization, Some cities of our country are blindly following the pursuit of "internationalization",which lead to a lot of cloning city squares without local characteristics.Unfortunately,these city squares cannotsatisfy the people’s spiritual pursuit of traditional culture connotation,moreover,they also block the transmission of urban historical context.Modern city square as a "sitting room of the city", is an important part of urban landscape.The city squares with native cultural characteristics not only directly show visitors the historical context and characteristic landscape, but also help local residents to find a sense of belonging and pride for his hometown.Based on the above understanding, this paper first illustrates the research background and relevant concepts, and summarizes the function of the square type and the corresponding requirement of native culture. Secondly,it gradually analyzes the interior and the exterior connections among people, local culture and square landscape.Then based on the above research, the paper sums up the specific design ideas, design methods and space environmental factors for city squares with local cultural characteristics. Lastly, several suggestions for the development of modern city square landscape are put forward, which are aimed at making some contribution to the research of urban landscape.
