In recent years, China has witnessed rapid development in its urban rail transit system, which has become an important means of transportation for daily traveling. But the increasing passenger volume has also brought great challenges to urban rail transit operation, and passenger congestion has become a normal state for urban rail transit in big cities. Reasons for passenger congestion are diverse, including the urban function of the district in which stations are located, the position of the station in rail transit network, and the transport capacity of nearby sections. Therefore, it is of great significance to conduct an in-depth analysis of the causes of passenger congestion and its propagation properties in rail transit network, and then formulate corresponding solving solutions. Based on this situation, this thesis mainly does the following jobs:(1) After presenting a detailed analysis of the definition, classification, causes, and features of passenger congestion in urban rail transit network, this thesis concludes that reasons for passenger congestion include three aspects:topological structure, transport capacity, and passenger demand. Besides, passenger congestion has obvious transmission features on rail transit network. Crowdedness in one station would lead to the congestion in nearby stations, forming a "dot-line-area" spreading situation.(2) According to the characteristics of urban rail transit network and the causes of passenger congestion, this thesis constructs a multi-layer urban rail transit network. Based on relevant theories about complex network, it proposes the identification index of passenger congestion from the perspectives of the topological layer, the capacity layer and the passenger demand layer. In addition, the urban rail transit network of Beijing in2014is analyzed as the example.(3) Considering the differences between inflow and outflow passengers, the effect of station’s individual characteristics on the spread of crowdedness and the transmission direction of passenger congestion, this thesis constructs the SIS-CP model for the spread of passenger congestion on urban rail transit network, with a reference to epidemic propagation theory and cellular automata thought. In addition, it simulates the spread process of primary congestion on the network, and verifies and analyzes the propagation properties of passenger congestion on the network with the actual operation data of Beijing urban rail transit as the example. (4) On the basis of the causes of passenger congestion (primary or secondary congestion), this thesis proposes relief measures targeted at points, lines, and areas from the perspectives of network topology, transportation organization, and passenger demand control. On this basis, with the example in Chapter3, the writer carries out simulation analysis for the effects of the passenger demand control strategy, thus laying theoretical foundations for the formulation of congestion solving strategies for urban rail transit.
