The roof has been hailed as the fifth facade of the building, it is the extremely important element when enclosing architectural space and shaping architectural form of the building. based on the background of high strength development of the city,the requirement to improve environment quality in city has become more and more urgent. The roof space,which has been lied idle and gone wasted in a long term, leads to a new awareness for the development and utilization of this potential space.This idea will be pushed to the front. The publicity of roof space is based on enriching and improving the quality of life in the city. It includes developing the huge potential of space resources, opening to urban space, urbanizing architectural space, shaping a public place for ultimate purpose of social interaction.The first chapter briefly describes the development process of roof space in the domestic and international history and discusses the significance and the objective of studying the value of the publicity on roof space. It presents the background, purpose, research methods and research framework. The second chapter combs the concept and related theory of publicity and discusses the relationship between publicity of roof space and value of public life. The third chapter discusses functional and special issues of roof space in the aspects of city, architecture and ontology. The fourth chapter discusses to organize public life by enhancing connection with urban space,facing up with the public in exoteric form. Combined with cultural consensus ideology,the fifth chapter discusses to create a kind of roof space with belongingness in the apects of region,city and society,by perfecting, shaping and guiding urban life. The sixth chapter summarizes strategy of creating public roof space based on investigation and collection of cases.
