Design Studies On Waterscape Reflecting Pool In Landscape Design

There is an old saying "No water no garden" since ancient times. Waterscape has drawn the attention of designers from home and abroad. Waterscape is an indispensable element of gardens, and as an important part of waterscape, reflecting pool has gain much more appliance. Waterscape reflecting pool can expand space, help with human health, ameliorate microclimate and contribute a lot to the improvement of environment and the survival of botany and animals, thus playing an important role in creating a good hydrological environment for landscape architecture.This paper will combine the basic theories of reflecting pool and landscape effect, and present related concepts in the field of waterscape reflecting pool. It is based on the theory of waterscape reflecting pool formation, garden aesthetics, landscape ecology, environmental psychology, ergonomics, guidance quality and so on, and classifies reflecting pools into natural, regular and mixed types according to the difference in the plane; into natural and artificial types according to the difference in their origins; into vertical and sloping types according to the difference in revetment; and into pool-roof, bottom-up and top-down types according to the difference in the height of the pool roof.It concludes the features and functions of waterscape reflecting pool, and highlights the utility of reflecting pool. Reflecting pool can not be mentioned as landscape, for it is integral united with the scenery around. This paper will also discuss the combination of reflecting pool and different elements and that waterscape designers should consider the integrity of reflecting pool and hold the design principle of optical artistry, cultural inheritance, low-priced cost and maintenance, sustainability, beauty and artistry. As a whole, reflecting pool should first consider the harmony with the overall design, whose design factors are mainly graphic design, section design, water drainage design, revetment design and the choice of bottom pavement. This paper will put forward four different types of waterscape reflecting pool based on real cases, design factors, comprehensive analysis on the field, functional orientation according to the project background and the design principles of reflecting pool.This paper also presents opinions based on the related theories of reflecting pool design, and the existing problems of and solutions to modern waterscape reflecting pool. Hoping this paper can help designers with reflecting pool design and enhance their understanding of reflecting pool, thus creating more value for urban landscape and citizens’sightseeing and participation.
