With the continuous expansion of the distribution network scale, grid is extending to the vast remote areas and problem of voltage quality in mid&high-voltage distribution network is gradually revealing. The application of series capacitor compensation can effectively enhance the load voltage at the end of the distribution network, which makes the voltage quality better. Meanwhile, the protection of series compensation capacitor has become a focus of the study, which requires the protection and control devices will be able to detect the fault and quickly exit capacitors.In order to protect and control the FSC, the paper proposes the fast switch instead of the traditional gap and circuit breaker as the protection execution unit. This paper analyzes the characteristic of structure and components and preliminarily makes FSC protection programs, which include the protection for capacitor and protection for MOV. Short circuit fault identification algorithm can take a effcet in 2ms and control the fast switch to ensure capacitor exit in 15ms. This greatly reduces the capacitor over-voltage time and also reduces MOV accumulation energy, which can reduce the volume of device, save space, and improve economy.Through hardware and software platform, paper designs the FSC protection and control device and tests the functions of device prototype. The test results achieve the desired effect, which makes a good foundation for the next use of actual project.
