Pulse pattern generator is the basic test equipment in digital design and manufacturingprocesses, and its applications include providing the analog signal for tolerance testing,compliance testing and reliability testing. Pulse pattern generator can output pulse, pattern,data and clock signals, such that it has been widely used in radar and electroniccommunication systems. And the pulse signal generating circuit built by the conventionaldiscrete devices is not able to adjust the pulse width, signal frequency and amplitude, so thatits application is very limited. Therefore, the research and design of a programmable,multi-parameter adjustable broadband pulse pattern generator is important. Wherein thedigital pulse signal generating portion occupies a central position in the instrument, is aprerequisite of function implementation.In this paper, the digital signal generating unit in the broadband pulse pattern generatoris studied, and the overall design scheme of the system based on the principle of pulse signalis presented. And then describes in detail the key technology in the process of design and itssolutions. Also the hardware circuit is designed that combined with the technical indexes ofequipment requirements and the existing resources, including the FPGA control module, datacommunication interface module, DDS+PLL clock generation module, a programmable delayquad module and power management module, etc. Secondly, the paper introduces therealization of communication protocol and the design method of each function module oftemporal logic. Finally, the simulation and test about the design of the system unit has beencarried out. Through the analysis and comparison of the experimental results verify thecorrectness and feasibility of the digital pulse generator unit. The broadband pulse pattern canadjust these parameters that include2.5nsT-2.5ns pulse width,0.1MHz200MHzfrequency, delay, and work mode. And it can meet the technical requirements of the design.
