The auto industry of China has become one of the important supports of national economy with the rapid development of automobile industry which promotes the expansion of auto parts markets. Fuel tank which is mainly used to store fuel is an important component of automobile. It could be divided into two categories which includes metal tank and plastic tank according to the material. The metal fuel tank has been widely used on many occasions due to its metal properties and its market demand is still very large though plastic fuel tank is getting more and more recognition and promotion with the development of material science. But traditional manual or semi-automated production equipment is still applied in most domestic metal fuel tank manufacturers which lead to the lower efficiency and weaker universality and it become difficult to guarantee the product quality. Thus it makes great significance for increasing the productivity of the product and the market share of the enterprise to develop an automated automobile fuel tank production line. The main research content of the article is as follows:(1) The fuel tank production capacity of the cooperative company and the production cycle of the production lines were determined according to the specific conditions and requirements of the cooperative company by conducting research on the production status of the automobile metal fuel tank in domestic and foreign enterprise. And the layout of production lines was designed as the series and double side arrangement form on the basis of original equipment of the enterprise.(2) The design requirements of the production lines were determined and the overall scheme of the mechanical structure was designed according to the technological process of metal fuel tank. The mobile platform which was equipped with the tools and fixture and the stamping positioning function and the loading and unloading device which was used to lift the stamping plate of the tank are developed in this article.(3) The key structure of the production line was designed and checked. The holes’ position error of the plate after stamping and the modal shape of beam which is the key component on the mobile platform were acquired by simulation calculation based on the three-dimensional model and finite element software and it proved that the designed production line could meet the requirements.(4) The control system which was designed preliminary based on PLC and touch screen could coordinate the production line’s components to achieve the automated production line in this article.The stamping production line of automobile fuel tank designed in the article could meet the demand of enterprises. The development of automation equipment would reduce the labor productivity and greatly increase the production efficiency at the same time.
