In the background of twentieth century’s innovation, simplified design and modern residential complex has been an very important medium in the background of industrial civilization buildings and social development. Despite in the late20th century’s revivalist appeared around the world, but simplicity has been a constantly evolving main trend. Nowadays,"less is more" simplified design style has acquired mainstream society groups’s emerging identity and esteem, simplified design have got unprecedented attention in daily life. And emerging groups increasingly focused on simple and convenient life residential patterns, and modern residential complex are most closely reflects the simplicity which have become an important method. The middle social strata and youth groups are increasingly concerned about emerging and respected simplified design aesthetics and simplicity of life. The study of living space’s functional simplicity and public services in modern residential complex which making simplified design research full of realistic meaning.In this paper firstly the study is about the origin of simplicity design in Western modern residential complex, which explore the fountain of simplified design aesthetic in the main building of residential development theory, and try to find the simplicity law and potential expression. This will provide ideas and methods on designing modern simplified residential complex. And a typical collection of western modern residential complex with simplified design strategy summarized in this paper will divide into three parts, namely, the simplified design of external form, public space and dwelling unit. And combined with current lifestyle, the simplified trend of diversity of thought and modern residential complex, search for a simplified design objective interpretation, and thus acquired a deeper knowledge and understanding of modern residential complex and simplified design, which is the most important meaning of this paper.
