The concept of Virtual Lab(Virtual Laboratory), first proposed by Professor WilliamWulf University of Virginia twenty years ago, has gradually become a hot researchorganizations at domestic and foreign. In this paper, the applications of virtuallaboratory technology were studied in the field of education and training at home andabroad, and according to the status of engine teaching in domestic universities, anengine virtual laboratory system was proposed. In the base of the analysis of theapplications of the engine virtual laboratory technology in domestic and foreign, weexplored the related solutions by comparing the component systems of traditionallaboratory system and combining with the actual needs, finally determined to useMicrosoft Visual Studio2010as the development tool of the engine virtual laboratory.After the preliminary design of the virtual laboratory structural framework, theappropriate solution for the typical modules in the system has been further determined,including the procedures design of the cognitive and performance laboratory、simulationmodels of engine and the mixed programming work. Considering for the less precisionof the simulation results and the virtual laboratory system is mainly for the experimentalteaching and per-service training, we determined to use a graph model based on theMAP model of engine developed by MATLAB. The expansion space to add differentfunctional blocks has been designed in the system, work in this paper are as follows:(1) the interface design of some sub-module including cognitive laboratory、performance laboratory、control panel and related programming in the virtual laboratorysystem has been finished by C#, such as the optimization of interface visual design、thedemonstration module in the cognitive laboratory and modular design of dashboard.(2) In the virtual laboratory, the call to the simulation model of the engine has beenrealized, the mixed programming of C#and MATLAB is completed, thethree-dimensional MAP model is built by MATLAB, based on the thermodynamic cyclecurve the work process thermodynamic model is designed.(3) The load characteristics experimental operation module is designed for the enginevirtual experiments, the introduced modules of experimental safe operation、laboratoryinstrument and experimental parameters has been designed in the system.
