In the age of energy shortage, nuclear power has been paid attention by many counties all over the world for its economical, clean and used wildly advantages. AP1000is the representative third generation nuclear power plant introduced from the US company Westinghouse. The temporary roof is playing a critical role in the AP1000nuclear power plant’s construction schedule and quality. The construction of the AP1000nuclear power plant is used in this paper as engineering background to study the temporary roof optimal design, and then it reduces its deadweight. The main contents of this paper are as follows.(1) According to the contents and requirements of the large-span steel structure suspension centre’s layout, the location of temporary roof’s suspension centre is analyzed and the multiple layouts of the suspension centre are designed and compared. The layout’s reliability is verified by finite element analysis.(2) According to the analysis of the advantage and disadvantage of the two initial temporary roof schemes, the temporary roofs are optimized primarily. Compared with the finite element analysis results, the further optimization’s basis is selected.(3) Fully stressed design is expanded, and then it will take stress, displacement and stability into account. With using this method in the temporary roof optimal design, the temporary roof is safety and reliable with light deadweight.(4) The special spreaders of temporary roof are designed and analyzed by finite element method. The analysis result shows that the special spreaders meet the temporary roof lifting’s requirements.
