As a new type of thin-walled structure, steel silos have been widely used for novel andattractive appearance and safe and reliable structure. With the gradually mature of design andconstruction technology, steel silos are widely applied in various fields, especially thelarge-scale floor-fixed steel silos with the large diameter and large storage. As one of the mainforce support elements of the large-scale floor-fixed steel silos, ribbed stiffeners have a greatimpact on the steel silos. Therefore, research on the design of ribbed stiffeners becomesessential.On the basis of summarizing the predecessors’ research results, the cross section formand load property of ribbed stiffeners are proposed and analyzed by using the method oftheoretical calculation and the FEA method in this paper. Meanwhile, the optimal design ofribbed stiffeners is also studied. The main contents are presented as follows:(1) According to the simplified calculating method and the FEA method in the "grainsteel silo design code"(GB50322-2011), the paper study on the stress of the shells and ribbedstiffeners which are the main force support elements of the large-scale floor-fixed circularsteel silos. Contrasting the results of the simplified calculating method with those of the FEAmethod, the conclusion that the finite element model is accuracy is presented.(2) According to the theoretical calculation and the FEA method, the paper research onthe cross-section characteristic of the ribbed stiffeners which are frequently used. And thereasonable cross-section form is put forward.(3) Through the research on the ribbed stiffeners of steel silo change along the heightdirection and the distribution distance, the conclusion that the rule of main design parametersincludes thickness, height and distribution distance is obtained. So as to the optimal design ofribbed stiffeners.Overall, based on the study of the above content, the goal of safety and reasonableeconomy is achieved, expecting there is certain help to the design and construction of thelarge-scale floor-fixed circular steel silos. Meanwhile, it can enrich the theory research ofoptimization of ribbed stiffeners. It also can play a positive role for the development and promotion of the large-scale floor-fixed circular steel silos.
