Biomass fuel, which is clean and renewable, is considered as a kind of the ideal alternative fuels for internal combustion engine. This paper is mainly based on a kind of biomass pyrolysis upgraded fuel. With the analysis of its physicochemical properties and related experiments, a set of suitable engine modification plan had been put forward, including the structure improvement of the engine and the control system adjustment for the realization of dual fuel electronic injection and control. The components of the bio-fuel and conventional fuel are very different, however, the suitable advance angle of ignition, injection timing and other parameters are closely related to the fuel type. So that, many relative parameters have to be adjusted after the fuel changing. Therefore, a engine control system with the function of adjustable parameter had been developed. In order to validate and regulate the ECU control system without the sensors and actuators, a kind of device which could control and detect the ECU had been developed. In the form of HIL, the basic simulation and regulation for the control unit, such as ignition advance angle and injection timing, could be achieved conveniently. Finally, because of the difference in flame speed, air-fuel ratio, viscosity and other physical and chemical properties, the fuel injection flow rate and the minimum ignition energy for the bio-oil and gasoline are different. For this reason, experiments for calibrating the alternative fuels were done and provided the basic operating parameters for ECU.
