Urban traffic is an important part of the urban economic structure. It directlyaffects social economic activities and the living standards of urban residents. It is anessential condition for normal operation of urban industry, commerce, residents workand daily life and so on. It’s also the basic building blocks of the city. With thedevelopment of the national modernization construction, deepening of economicreform and opening-up policy to raise people’s cultural living standards, it has broughta sharp increase of city traffic demand. In fact, in recent years, local governmentshave large investment in the aspect of urban road construction and retrofit, but theurban traffic congestion and traffic pollution problem is increasingly serious. This hadto cause all areas of society to rethink it.Chinese culture mainly is a kind of ethical culture, which’s identified from theetymological meaning of Chinese "culture" alone. Its various aspects are centered onself-improvement and code of conduct, and all of its aspects must be penetrated intopeople’s daily life. In addition, Chinese culture pays attention to blood relationship,which emphasizes the integrity. Reflecting in the cultural psychology, it also mustemphasize the unity of all aspects of cultural psychology. Because of that, the Chineseculture and Chinese culture psychology are quite stable, which are strong continuity,sustainability and difficult to change. In the design of urban traffic, it is undeniablethat some aspects of the cultural psychology are positive, some are negative. In thecurrent condition that urban traffic congestion and traffic pollution problem of ourcounty become worse and worse, seeking truth from facts to analyze thecharacteristics of cultural psychology in China and connecting with the reality in thedesign of modern urban traffic, it’s very important and urgent to be used to solve theurban traffic problem.This paper attempts to get the viewpoint of China’s cultural psychology throughthe practice of urban traffic planning and design, expects to inspire designers in theprocess of urban traffic design, and can provide guidance in urban traffic design fromthe aspects of cultural psychology, so as to promote the improvement of urban trafficdesign and achieve the purpose of improving the urban traffic environment of our country. But from the perspective of the integrity of subject, this subject has certaintechnical challenge in the actual progress. The overlapping courses, first of all, takesphilosophy of science and technology as the background, breaks through the existingresearch framework, and has an attempt on horizontal development of urban trafficdesign research.Based on the grasp of the basic characteristics and target of urban traffic design,this paper analyzes the main features of Chinese traditional culture or culturalpsychology, aims to discuss what aspects of Chinese cultural psychology have apositive impact to urban traffic design and what aspects have a negative impact. Forurban traffic design, we should inherit the positive cultural psychology and criticize orgive up negative cultural psychology. This article will further study the specificembodiment of cultural psychology in process of modern urban traffic design practice.From the four aspects that "nature and humanity","people-oriented", the Chinese wayof thinking and the Chinese concept of face, respectively discusses the pros and consof the cultural psychology and urban traffic design.The full text is divided into seven parts. The first part is an introduction. Thesecond part separately summarize the Chinese culture psychology and the urbantraffic design, and in theory and reality, sums up the necessity of the research ofcultural psychological factors in the design of the urban traffic. The third part mainlyanalyzes the positive impact of the idea of "nature and humanity" on the urban trafficdesign. The fourth part mainly discusses the positive impact of the concept of"people-oriented" on urban traffic design. The fifth part mainly expounds thecharacteristics of the Chinese way of thinking and its impact on urban traffic design.The Chinese way of thinking has both positive and negative impact to the urbantraffic design. Modern urban traffic planning faces different environment, so in thedesign of the urban traffic design we should dialectically treat the Chinese way ofthinking. The sixth part mainly analyzes the negative impact of Chinese concept offace to the design of the urban traffic. The seventh part is the conclusions of thispaper.The conclusion of this article: the modern urban traffic design should inherit thecultural psychology of "nature and humanity" and "people-oriented", we should alsodialectically treat the Chinese way of thinking, and fully understand the negativeeffects of the Chinese concept of face to urban traffic design. We should combine thematerial basis of urban traffic design, and gradually change already outdated urban traffic design concept in the existing urban traffic development pattern. On the basisof urban traffic design embodying city services, experience, and function, we build abrand new, green,"people-oriented", and sustainable development traffic environment.Only in this way to combine the material and non-material design of urban trafficdesign concept, can we truly achieve the sustainable development of city and makecity life more beautiful.
