With the deep reform of two networks, in our country, quality of power supply from the power sector generally improves, line loss reduces further and electric transmission is more convenient. According to the requirements of electric power administrative department, electric energy metering alone has gradually realized the system "one household one table" among urban residents. However, artificial meter reading work is more and more heavy and it has some disadvantages, such as low efficiency, bigger error, higher cost, low accuracy rate and hysteresis of data statistical analysis, and unable to realize real-time meter reading, time billing, real-time monitoring of power supply and utilization. Therefore, to relay on artificial meter reading can’t meet the needs of management and service of modern power system, so using a new type of meter reading way has become the consensus of all power sectors. Designing a multi-user intelligent energy meter, which can overcome the low efficiency of traditional manual meter reading mode and uncertainty, is significant to promote the development of electric power management modernization process. Multi-user electric smart energy meter is designed to collect the electricity from13users(12users and one public lighting).When reading meter, the reader can take handheld meter reading device to collect data so as to reduce unnecessary work. Multi-user electric smart meter design is divided into three parts:measurement design, data transmission design and the design of the infrared data acquisition.Combining with practical application, this paper will study the infrared electricity acquisition of multi-user electric energy meter system and complete the design of infrared meter reading device at last. It analyzes working principles of the infrared transmission and of the whole power acquisition system, the thinking of system hardware design and software programming process. The system uses AT89S52MPU made in Atmel as microprocessor and, introduces the hardware designing scheme and the working principle of each part in detail, and draws the final system principle diagram and PCB diagram. It mainly expounds software debugging process including12864LCD module, keyboard4*4,24C02memory chip, RS232serial communication and infrared0038communication and gives the program flow charts as well as a part of source program. In the design,12864LCD is used to transcribe data, which makes the man-machine interface interaction ability greatly increase. Using4*4keyboard to control the system makes the operation more flexible.
