On account of the high speed, broad scope and unstable track of plane, aeronautical communications may face some problems when uses traditional protocols directly that based on MIPv6or NEMO Basic Support Protocol. One of the problems is large handoff delay, that the handoff of standard protocols which are triggered by the reception of router advertisement or received signal strength may not be triggered in time when the plane moves rapidly. Another problem is high end-to-end packet transfer delay that caused by far distance between on-board mobile router and their home agents. For the above problems, this paper proposes a route optimization scheme which applies to aeronautical communications that can provide indifference communications service for passengers on the plane compare with that on the ground. The main contribution of this dissertation can be summarized as follows:One is route optimization scheme for NEMO in Aeronautical Communications based on pre-registration. The plane will experience three sequence handoff phase among different bases which contains link layer handoff, network layer handoff and home agent register. The core idea of this scheme is performing network layer handoff and home agent register in advance, keeping the whole base handoff delay within link layer handoff delay. Be different from traditional pre-registration scheme, the scheme calculates the probability, namely handoff probability, that plane moves into a base station in future, the target base will allocate on-board MR with care-of-address and perform home agent register advance. When plane moves into overlap of current base and target base, as long as on-board MR completes link layer handoff, the whole base handoff ends. Apart from that, reduce end-to-end delay by optimizing path between MR and base station. Simulation resultsshow the advantages of handoff delay, end-to-end delay, throughout and package loss rate. The other is route optimization for nest-NMEO in Aeronautical Communications based on RA and UNA. Nest NEMO in Aeronautical Communications exist triangle routing problem which brings serious transmission delay. This scheme improves RA and UNA message field which derives from standard MIPv6and neighbor discovery protocol respectively, thus eliminating "nest" logically and triangle route. In addition, building bi-directional tunnel between rMR and nMR in nest NEMO which can avoid data package forwarded by nMRs and reduce end-to-end delay. Simulation results show that this scheme can reduce end-to-end delay for nest NEMO in aeronautical communication significantly, even though introducing a little signaling overhead.
