Because of the development of automobile industry, the electrical equipment and powerelectronic technology is used widespread in the automotive electrical system. The need ofautomobile generator is more highly, in such aspects as structure, capacity and performance.Vehicle generator gradually tends to be high reliability, long life, high power, high speed, highpower density, high efficiency. Electrical excitation generator can’t meet the aboverequirements because of its inherent defect performance. Permanent magnet generatorbecomes the new generation of vehicle generator because of its simple structure, highreliability, high efficiency, good performance. Both home and abroad draw great attention onit.When permanent magnet motor made, the magnetic fields produced by permanentmagnets can’t be adjusted, making the output voltage is difficult to control, so restrict theapplication range of the permanent magnet generator. How to reduce the inherent voltageregulation is one of the key technologies of permanent magnet generator. Voltage regulationhas a close relationship with armature reaction reactance. This article studies on the voltageregulation and the armature reaction reactance.This paper will study on a low voltage regulation of the permanent magnet generator,which rated power is2.5kW, the speed is1800r/min, voltage regulation is±5%, anddevelop a prototype.First, the paper will study the changing rule of the reactance parameters of PMSM. Usingthe equivalent d-axis and q-axis magnetic circuit method calculates reactance parameters ofdifferent machine, which are four built-in permanent magnet motors and five surfacepermanent magnet motors. The paper will analyze reactance parameters of different typemotors changing with the inner power factor angle, and the range of reactance parameterschanging. The two built-in permanent magnet motors without damped cage will be testedreactance parameters using voltmeter ammeter method.Secondly, the influence of different type slot size, air-gap length, core axial length, thesize on voltage regulation will be analyzed. Finally, the proper air gap length and the length in permanent magnet magnetizationdirection will be given to meet the performance, at the same time, try to reduce the voltageregulation to realize the design of low voltage regulation permanent magnet generator.
