As the direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous motors for crane replacedtraditional crane structure, the overall efficiency of system improved, but the permanentmagnet motor as part of a crane device, which is asked to low speed, poles, motor slendertype and a series of special structure. What’s more, that causes the motor cooling conditionwas very limited. Effective cooling structure is taken to reduce the temperature rise andeliminate local hot spots through the calculation of transient temperature field of permanentmagnet motor temperature rise and the distribution of local hot spot to realize high efficiencyand high torque density of permanent magnet motor. The major works are as follows:Firstly, the transient temperature field calculation is carried out on the PMSM with S3duty for Crane. The physical model of3D transient temperature field for a crane PMSM isestablished.3D transient temperature field is calculated using3D finite element Method, andanalyzing the parameter calculation of static temperature field, the calculation of transienttemperature field on the accuracy of the motor temperature field. By comparing the resultsof prototype test and calculation, the science of heat source variable loading is shown, and thereference is provided for the calculation of temperature field in special working condition ofmotor.Secondly, based on the comprehensive consideration of the main motor heatsource distribution and structure of the whole machine, several sets of ventilation and coolingsystem scheme are designed for permanent magnet synchronous motor for crane. Thecooling scheme is carried out flow thermal coupling calculation using3D finite volumemethod, and the calculation results are compared and analyzed. Finally, based on boththe protection level, process and cost of the motor, cooling scheme of crane is selected.Finally, a permanent magnet synchronous motor for crane of9.7kW and5108N misdesigned. The motor adopts the exterior rotor and crane drum integration to replace thetraditional crane used in induction motor-speed reducer drive system. In the design process,the dimension, air gap length, magnetic circuit structure, pole-slot combination, pole-arc factorof permanent magnet are contrastive analyzed. Through the rational selection of the motorparameters, permanent magnet synchronous motor for crane meets the design requirements.
