Most pupils are in one-child families in the city and the pupils safety andwhereabouts are the focal issues of the social concern. In order to enhance the safety ofthe pupils after school and supply more playing area which can meet the psychologicalneeds, it is necessary to have a deep research between the city space usage and theaction of the pupil after school. And then, the distribution of the environmentalcondition around the school and the path of the pupil after school need a better andbalanced planning.A investigate and survey about the school district and the pupils was taken in thesecond-tier and third-tier cities based on GPS. First, based on the collection of the basisdata of school districts, the problems that uneven distribution, service radius out ofstandard and education resource disproportion were raised in Hefei, Bengbu andHuaibei. After that, the three schools in the three different administrative districts ofHefei were chosen to collect routes of the pupils of various grades after school byutilizing the handheld GPS meter. Sequentially we can know well about the actiondistribution of the pupil after leave school in the chart. And then, the comparativeanalysis of distribution place of pupils after school and the city spatial structure fromthe visual angle. Finally, a quantification analysis based on the questionnaire replied bythree different primary schools in Hefei and Bengbu was made as a supplementaryinvestigation. Research shows that the activities of the pupils after school are differentwith different grades. And most of them would stay for a long time around the schoolgate, stores, city parks and the leisure facility of residential area. We should optimizethose place based on the activities of the pupil after leave school. Then differentcharacteristics of urban space will affect the behavior of pupils and the correspondingoptimization suggestions have been proposed. The study discussed the relationship between urban space and pupils’ behaviorcharacteristics after school by the data collection, data analysis of GPS and quantitativemethods. Through a three-part discussion, the research would provide suggestions to theexisting question of the division of school districts in the city and theoretical directionto the city space design around the primary school which could provide an optimizingeffect to the city space around the routes of pupils.
