The crawler crane as the special equipment, event of an accident, it takes society loss can’t use money to measure. So, the most concerned issue for the crane users is ensure the safe operation of the crane. The boom structure of crane is a key component, and is the main functional elements, so enhance and improve the quality control of the boom structure is a profound meaning and significance. Quality control of boom structure consists of four respects of design, manufacture, use and maintenance, the most critical is the design quality control and the manufacturing quality control.Established a quality control model of crawler crane boom structure from design concept, design theory, design and manufacture, based on user needs and studied information of quality for other Competitions, to control the quality of products provides assurance system.The design principles of boom geometric parameters, based on the principle of steel structure and the user’s basic needs which are minimum working radius of boom and rated load, and to analyze mechanic behavior of boom from the origin of design, and have found the relationship between internal forces of boom, which are the axial force, the swing force and the derricking force, and the rated load. According to the requirements of Input and output system, using force solution and mechanic behavior to determine the main parameters of the boom structure:boom main section height, width, weight, main chord cross-sectional area, the cross-sectional area of webs, two limb width, maximum main boom length. This will provides references for boom preliminary design, while providing the basis for subsequent analysis.The design quality control of boom structure, the main parameters of the boom structure and its key components used precision design. First, to determine the level value of design factors based on the results to the principle design, then use the3a guidelines to determine the level value of the noise factors, finally, to determine the best combination of design variables and tolerances by the Taguchi method, and using the analysis tools of Orthogonal experiment, SNR, variance analysis, orthogonal polynomial regression equation and quality loss function. Simultaneously, using correlation analysis of the double arms structure study the extent interrelated between double arms frame structure and single. For manufacturing quality control of the boom structure, the paper main control the welding quality-oriented. The main factors affecting the quality of welding include:geometry and welding defects of welded joints. First, to control the quality of welded structure by using experimental design to determine the primary and secondary factors that affect the structure performance and to built the level values of design variable, and to determine the best combination of design variables and tolerances by the Taguchi method. Then, the quality control of welding defect, established welding defect model and to analyze the impact of different size, location and type of weld defects for weld strength. Propose measures to ensure the welding quality based on the above analysis, and provide a reference for engineering practice.
