With the increase of the lifting weight and the boom length, the design requirements of the boom system, which is the main bearing weight structure of the crawler crane, has becoming higher and higher. The design quality of the auxiliary bracing has large influence on the mechanical property of the boom system. In view of the deficiency of domestic theoretical research of the auxiliary bracing and the urgent requirements in engineering design, the domestic designers often refer to the mature overseas products and then use their own experience to determine the optimal location and length when they design the boom system and the auxiliary bracing.Based on LR1750, which is the classical product of Liebherr co., various mechanical properties of standard SL boom based on flexible constraint are analyzed by the aid of ANSYS in this paper, and a rational design rule is looked after. Compared with the mechanical properties of QUY750crawler crane, which is designed and manufactured by Dalian University of Technology with DHI· DCW Group Co.,Ltd together, the design reference for domestic crawler cranes, especially for the equivalent tonnage, is provided in this paper.The main work and research achievements are as follows:(1) The finite element analysis methods of main boom system based on flexible constraint, including methods of simplification and calculation finite element model, are researched as well as seized in this paper. The programmed finite element calculation process is realized by APDL.(2) Y-deflection, chord stress, S-guying and S-adding guying force, Z-deflection as well as boom stability coefficient etc of main boom system for every calculating condition is analyzed emphatically, a rational design rule is searched, which can be used to instruct the design of domestic crawler crane, especially of the equivalent tonnage.(3) The design rule of boom whole stability is discussed emphatically in this paper. Comparing eigenvalue analysis with nonlinear buckling analysis of the stability, the relation between linear and nonlinear stability as well as between deflection and stability is researched, the calculation of stability is simplified to make design conveniently. (4) Parameters of mechanical properties of QUY750crawler crane standard SL boom system based on flexible constraint are counted and compared with the design rule gotten by this paper.
