This article studies the topic of jack modular design for mass customization. The technology ofmodular design can project the creation and configuration which decreases the cost of production,waste of product design and the product design life cycles. At the same time, the technology insuresthe requirement of diversification of products series. By the way of modular configuration, themodular design can cope with the changing customers’demands and overcome the shortcomings ofsmall product series because of mass customization. This research developed modular designmanagement system for jack product which instantiates the model of modularization designplatform, and with using an example of product configuration it verifies the feasibility of thesystem.First of all, it introduces the background and significance of the research. Then it proposes theconcept of modular design for mass production to help the manufacturing enterprise get out of thedilemma; it summarizes the theory of modular design system, the status of modular division,configuration and evaluation of them; then it gives out the main content of this article and thestructure of it.Secondly, it briefs QFD theory and the implementing procedures of it. Through the method ofquality function deployment it transforms the customers’demands into specific engineeringparameters characteristics which are concluded from the market research; then it furtherdecomposes these engineering parameters features into several functional units and allocates theweight value of the function units by the way of AHP analysis.Then it analyses similar characteristic of jack parts and establishes a correlation matrix ofcomponents; then it divides the correlation matrix using the fuzzy clustering algorithm to form thedynamic clustering figure. With calculating the result of dynamic clustering figure, it constructs themodular product family structure tree of jack; the process of forming the structure tree of themodular product family considers the different strategy of different level module.Afterwards it builds tabular layouts of article characteristics to express the attributes ofconfiguration unit of jack product, and then through a composite structure coding model itexpresses the attribute information; it discusses the consistency of expressing the configurationinformation by both using the Ontology and the tabular layouts of article, and on the basis ofproduct configuration Ontology it constructs Ontology semantic retrieval of parts ontology library;it briefly describes the way of retrieving and configuring product by extending the SML table andconstruct the configuration model of a modular product of jack. The process of configuration reasoning which roughly have two steps; it uses rule knowledgeto represent the constrain information of jack product configuration and it summaries and classifiesthe constraint relationship of the module which exists in the product structure tree; then it uses acompound decision-making reasoning to reason the product configuration and evaluates thecorresponding configuration results.Finally, on the basis of theoretical research and modeling of modular product platform, thisarticle develops modular design management system which meets the purpose of the masscustomization for jack modular product; it introduces the goal of developing the software system,the tools and design principle, and the main functional modules of it.
