Berthing aids system is a new navigation aid which be used in large vessels berthmanipulation. The paper is uses incoming and departs large vessels as the practices object,researches implementation method and key technologies of berthing aids system. The system,which relies on differential GPS, Wi-Fi wireless communication technologies and uses berthingalgorithm model, provide necessary reference information to help vessels to dock at wharf andsail in port area. It can effectively improve the operating speed of berthing vessels and safeguardwharf and sailing in port area. Now it has become an important part of port building.Berthing aids system consists of positioning terminal and positioning terminal. Firstly,Thispaper describes the system’s component design and the berthing function algorithm model,elaborates on the usage of differential GPS positioning in real project. We can collect vessel’slocation information by placing positioning terminals on two sides and front of the ship, whichcan transfer to display terminal by Wi-Fi. And it analyzes the advantages and disadvantagesaccording to the actual environment.Secondly, using Objective-C language in the Apple development platform xocde achievedthe large vessels berthing aids system. Large vessels berthing aids system uses tablet pc pad asthe support equipment. This system can display the berthing ship on terminal in graphic form andcompute performance data, such as, distance, ship running speed and the ship turn rate by usingberthing algorithm model to analyze location information from the positioning terminal anddimension information (the length of ship, the width of ship). It is composed of four parts,communications modules, data processing module, historical data playback module and userinterface modules. The final application examples show that the system could realize basicfunction such as location information collection and docking display.
