Column base is an important part of the connection of the upper structure and foundation, and its form and structure is related to the stability of the entire building structure. Column base can fix the column on the basis of the foundation and can also deliver the internal forces safely and reliably. This paper focuses on the influence of stiffener layout on the mechanical performance of the column base, and coming to a reasonable stiffener arrangement in order to provide reference for practical engineering design.The main work and achievements are as follows:1. Describe size formula and strength formula of the components of column base, and deformation formula of anchor.2. Introduce the the selection of pedestal parameter and build element model with ABAQUS to validate experiments in the paper which demonstrate the accuracy of the model.3. According to the result of the model:It is reasonable that stiffeners divide the bottom plate into as many grids as possible with small dimension.4. When the column base shoulder small axial force, its ultimate anti-bending capacity and initial rotational stiffness could be enhanced through increasing the quantity of stiffeners or arranging reasonable stiffeners’ layout. When the column base shoulder large axial force, its mechanical performance can be hardly affected by different layouts of stiffeners.5. Under the influence of bending moment, ultimate anti-bending capacity and initial rotational stiffness of the column base could also be enhanced by arranging stiffness parallel to web plate in the flanges of columns.6. Under influence of loading, the column section of stiffener height had a greater rotational deformation comparing to the middle section of the bottom plate around the x direction.7. The stiffener angular point, connecting to column or bottom plate alone, will concentrate stress significantly. So this position of the stiffness can be made rounded.8. Proposed to do the following studies in future:(1) To research the height and thickness of stiffeners, different loading methods, the arrangement and number of anchors etc. to see if they will cause different results on mechanical property of steel column base when the layout of stiffeners is same;(2) To study the initial rotational stiffness and the ultimate anti-bending capacity of the pillars around the weak axis direction.
