Pedestrian traffic runs through the travel process of the residents, the mobility and flexibility of this travel approach can ensure it can play a role of transition and convergence effectively, but, the current situation of pedestrian traffic problems emerges in an endless stream, and pedestrian crossing facilities are not appropriately arranged. Its basically behave in that planners give insufficient attention to the weak, such a setting penalized the poor. Set up a scientific and rational urban pedestrian crossing facility can improve the transportation environment and serve pedestrians bitterly. This paper attempts to research on model selection, site selection and reasonable distance and have the vital significance to the optimization of pedestrian crossing facilities.This paper introduces the classification of pedestrian crossing facilities and their respective characteristics. Summarize the main issues of the pedestrian crossing facilities. Introduce capacity calculation methods of pedestrian crossing facilities. Consider generation and distributions of the city pedestrian flow, Demand of pedestrian crossing are studied separately in core area, central area and peripheral area of the city. Secondly, the characteristics of traffic flow in the process of pedestrian crossing are analyzed through field survey. Furthermore, by adopting questionnaire, the psychological characteristics of pedestrian crossing, including speed and range, pedestrians’ maximum waiting time, acceptable detouring distance and the choice preference for pedestrian crossing facilities, are also displayed. Then, this article will set the course of pedestrian crossing facilities are divided into model selection, site selection and reasonable distance three key issues to search. As regards the model selection, Combined with road geometry, operating conditions of the vehicle and the street need of pedestrians crossing, Compare with capacity at the facility across and the actual demand of pedestrian crossing, and judge to set what kind of facilities. As regards the site selection, the city is divided into core area, central area and peripheral area, by combining macro and micro methods to determine the site respectively. As regards the distance, to reach the minimum of the sum of the delay between vehicle and pedestrian, considered separately from the psychology of pedestrian and driver, road design capacity and experience in major urban areas, a reasonable distance between plane pedestrian crossing facilities is proposed. Finally, which introduced to Shijiazhuang East Zone to get the setting of pedestrian crossing system according to the research results in this paper.
