Energy consumption in Building accounts for about 30% of total energy consumption in China. The number is still increasing with the development of economy and technology. Meanwhile, the requirements of the indoor environmental quality are increasing. Natural ventilation is a traditional technique. It has the advantage that not only reduces energy consumption, but also creates good indoor environment. We need to reduce energy consumption, conserve resources and enhance the quality of the indoor environment urgently in this age, so natural ventilation is more and more important as the changes of society.We found that natural ventilation can improve the indoor environment through literature survey. Have a good use of this technology not only brings comfort for people, but also save energy. Shading system is often used in building, especially Shading Louvres. It will have a great impact on the natural ventilation. Therefore, in this paper, we will focus on the impact of vertical blinds on the natural ventilation in building. Example of Anhui Hefei, we calculated annual hours which can be used in natural ventilation through building thermal balance principle and ventilation calculation. We used this number to analysis the potential of natural ventilation in this region. We found the target architecture which will be used in this study by the research of the typical office building of Hefei. The size of model is 6.0m × 4.0m × 3.6m. The window-wall ratio is 0.35,and the window-floor ratio is 0.315. A door M(size: 0.9m × 2.1m)) and two windows C1 and C2(size: 1.8m × 2.1m) are included. There is a office desk, three office chairs, a couch, a bookcase, two coffee table and two potted plants in our room. In the condition of the larger potential of natural ventilation, we set the case by changing the angle and the width of the vertical blinds, and using computational fluid dynamics software PHOENICS and ECOTECT to do our study.The results show that:(1)When the other conditions are same, the potential of natural ventilation will reduce with the increase of the gain of heat of building envelope;(2)With the louver angle θ changes from 15 ° to 165 °,the wind speed indoor changes as a waveform, and the values of wave peaks and troughs are closer;(3)when θ = 90 °, that the angle of wind direction and vertical louvers angle is 45 °, the area of indoor vortex is the smallest, that is the best uniformity of airflow indoor;(4)With the blinds width d increased from 0.1m to 0.3m, the wind speed indoor changes as a waveform;(5)Under the same conditions, with the blinds width increased, interior drafts region formed gradually shifted to the outlet;(6)Vertical blinds can improve the indoor thermal environment. When vertical blinds exist, comparison with no vertical blinds,the annual total discomfort reduced by about 2500 Deg Hrs.
