With the great development of national economy growth and the increasing urbanization rate in recent years, more and more people have started to move to urban areas. The concept of urban public transport system must be considered in the development of the spatial layout and prototyping of the city. Rail transit and bus transit are the most important two parts of urban public transport system. Due to the enhancing efforts in the construction of rail transit, the competition between normal bus transit and rail transit is becoming increasingly evident. The coordination of the relation between the two transits, playing their advantages, positive operation and satisfying the increasing travel demand of residents are the top priorities of today’s urban traffic issues. It is effective to ease the traffic pressure in the city by establishing the dominant position of rail transit in urban residents’ travel, and rationally planning public transit as the auxiliary transport means for passenger flow, so as to form a well-operated transport system and alleviate the pressure of urban road traffic. The thesis gives a detailed introduction of the development conditions of rail transit and public bus in the beginning, which comparatively analyses their characteristics in techniques, economic efficiency, comfort, accessibility and mobility. According to the results of the comparison, rail plays the dominant role in urban transport system. On the basis, the range of direct and indirect passenger flow range of rail transit is determined in the thesis, which also points out the source of indirect passenger flow. Besides, it researches the settlement of OD initial and terminal stations of feeder bus and the planning principles of the layout of OD initial and terminal stations. In addition, by using minimum travel time modeling, it determines the optimal station spacing and analyses the planning principles of locating intermediate stations.Based on urban road practical conditions, it analyses the thoughts and principles of optimizing feeder bus lines. It also summarizes the constraint conditions of single lines and the whole network, involved with feeder line planning. Combined with the above theories and conditions, it presents optimizing adjustment methods and implementing measures. The thesis sets up multi-goal programming model with minimum travel time and maximum feeder bus routine, and designs Genetic Algorithms to solve the model. Finally, taking Suzhou Rail Transit Line1 as an example and combining the actual situation, the thesis puts forward rectification comments on the line routes of public bus and the layout of initial and terminal stations.
