Due to its environmental-friendly merit and easy application, waterborne architectural coatings are the most widely used as decoration and protection materials in the world. In this thesis, we reviewed the current situation and trend of architectural coatings. Base on the characteristics of latex paint, we tested the different defoamers to solve the foaming problem. Besides, the different wetting agents and dispersants were tested to improve the performance of color development.Based on a typical interior wall latex paint, we compared the defoaming strength of mineral oil and siloxane defoamers. Using the roller coating process, we evaluated the defoaming strength and compatibility of the varying defoamers. The experimental results showed that the defoaming properties of siloxane defoamers are usually better than that of mineral oil defoamers, and the compatibility is a little worse. At the end, we tested all performance of interior wall latex paint and the appropriate defoamers were obtained. In addition, we compared the color development using different wetting agents based on the typical interior wall latex paint. After the environmental-friendly surfactant of Carbowet 13-40 was chosen as wetting agent, different dispersants were used to evaluate the color development.
