With the fast development of China’s economic construction, the terrain of railway construction begins to turn from plain and micro hilly region mainly to mountainous and hilly areas.In the process of construction,excavating road cuttings and tunnels produce a large number of engineering spoil stone with excellent performance. Reasonably effective use of using abandoned spoil slag to fill roadbed can largely avoid borrowing clay because of filling roadbed, decrease farmland occupation because of stacking abandoned spoil slag produced from excavating road cuttings and tunnels, reduce the destruction of the environment along the railway,save costs and avoid waste of resources. It has a very important social and economic significance.By reading relevant references, the paper summarizes the classification, the engineering characteristics and settlement mechanism of high roadbed filled by gravel packing. Based on Zhangtang overloaded railway, the paper monitored and simulated the process of stratified filling of high roadbed filled by gravel packing through field test and finite element software ABAQUS. The article deeply studied the law of internal settlement and stress distribution of high roadbed filled by gravel packing in the filling process.By analyzing the monitored data and the results of numerical simulation, we reappeared the law of internal settlement and stress distribution of high roadbed filled by gravel packing in the filling process and concluded that the influent height culverts impact on displacement is 20 m and the vertical stress is 12 m. In the filling process, the internal stress distribution of high roadbed filled by gravel packing is much complex.It appears stress concentration and soil arching effect. The article made some research on it.In addition, differential settlement and lateral displacement on the top of the roadbed are important factors which influence the stability of roadbed, here we did some research on it.The paper defines the uneven settlement of distance in the roadbed and fit the formula of uneven settlement of distance of redbed with culvert in the process of stratified filling of high roadbed filled by gravel packing. It is related to height and width of roadbed. The fitting formula is L=0.73H+6.7×10-3B. The concept and calculation formula of uneven settlement of distance provide some theoretical reference to the similar project.
