Automatic Meter Reading(AMR) is a kind of electronic information technology, which automatically collects, transmit and process data from the various meters (e.g., electricity meter, water meter, gas meter, etc.) by using sensing, communication and computing technologies. As the key technology, it provides the operation maintenance and statistical charges for the data management center.In this thesis, a ZigBee wireless network communication technology is introduced into the area of electric energy metering automatic meter reading in order to support a large-scale measurement sensor network meter reading application. RS485 bus technology is introduced to realize the automation of electric meter data acquisition. In the system of nodes, the low-power wireless rf CC2530 microprocessor is used as the core component, and the digital circuit design is realized for the corresponding automatic meter reading software.The main work is as follows:1. This thesis reviews the research situation of the key technologies of automatic meter reading, and then points out the common problems existing in the current studies, namely:(1) The existing meter reading systems do not support the large-scale measurement sensor network; (2) The special equipment for automatic meter reading still have higher costs.2. The structure of automatic meter reading system is analyzed and defined, and the structures of hardware system and software system are divided.3. Based on the division mentioned, the automatic meter reading hardware system structure of node equipment is designed, and then the detailed design of the node equipment of digital circuits is given.4. For data processing, the structure of automatic meter reading software system is constructed according to which the functional behavior is analyzed and identified. For sensor data transmission, the principle of Z-Stack (the protocol Stack of ZigBee) and its technology are analyzed. With the integration of the core algorithms of automatic meter reading, the automatic meter reading software of digital circuits for node device is designed and implemented.5. Two typical cases are tested in the barrier-free system with straight effective communication distance of 100-meters. The correctness of its function is also verified.The results of validation show that the automatic meter reading hardware and software system based on ZigBee can automatically collect, transmit and process the measurement data correctly and effectively. The operation of the system is stable and reliable, and the manufacturing cost is reduced, meeting the expected requirements.
