| Islands in South China Sea are far away from the continent. The residents on these island rely on dissel power generation, which is not reliable especially with adverse climate present. With the development of wind power generation and extensive application of small wind turbines, it is feasible to establish wind farms on the Island of South China Sea., the weather data of Dongsha island, Yongxing Island, Shanhu Island, and Taiping Island are investigated in this thesis to evaluate wind power resource of these islands and identify the site maching wind turbines. The meteorological observation data of the investigated stations from 1996 to 2012 are analyzed. The Chi-square test and RMSE test are utilized to identify the probability distribution of wind data by applying Weibull and Reyleigh distribution. It is uncovered that the probability of wind data can be fitted well with the Weibull distribution. The two parameters Weibull distribution is utilized to evaluate wind resources (including wind speed and wind power density) of investigated stations. The potential wind power generation of several wind turbines are calculated according to historical wind data from 1996 to 2012 and power curves of specific wind turbines. It is uncovered that the FL-30 wind turbine outperform the other in potential wind power generation. The seasonal variation of wind power generation of FL-30 are analyzed, too.The daily maxima wind data from 1996 to 2012 are extracted. The frequency of extreme wind are analyzed. The Probability Plot, Quantile-Quantile Plot and recurrence density function plot are utilized to diagnose applicability of the generalized Pareto distribution. The remaining function diagram are utilized to determine the threshold and the maximum likelihood approach are utilized estimate the extreme wind speed of 50-year recurrence interval. Numerical simulation shows that the extreme wind of 50-year recurrence interval in Yongxing and Shanhu island are 42.25m/s and 42.04m/, respectively. The class II wind turbine is suitable accordinf to IEC. The extreme wind of 50-year recurrence interval in Dongsha island is 35.3m/s and Class III wind turbine is suitable. The extreme wind of 50-year recurrence interval in Taiping island is 45.38m/s and the class S wind turbine is applicable. |
