| This paper intends to probe into the Dongzhenmen buildings and the surrounding environment on the basis of study of architectural pattern, component elements, shape and structure of Beijing City, city walls and city gates in Ming and Qing Dynasties. After large collection historical records, literature and data concerning Dongzhimen buildings, the paper gives an analysis and obtains fairly comprehensive historical information and data for restoration. And then, the paper places the Dongzhimen building back into the official building system in Qing Dynasty and provides a research restoration on the basis of building rules in Qing Dynasty under the criteria of data of Dongzhimen buildings themselves so as to strive to restore the Dongzhimen building groups to the best extent in accordance with the rules.The restoration in this paper is defined as research virtual restoration design, which is on the basis of data, literature and case studies. Because the documents collect ed are mostly during and after Qing Dynasty; and compared to other ancient buildings, the city gates are one of the types of buildings which are most vulnerable. In history, Dongzhimen buildings have been damaged and repaired for several times, and finally they were repaired according to the official building system in Qing Dynasty before demolishing, which was also finished on the basis. Therefore, this paper defines the age for restoration design in late Qing Dynasty.Meanwhile, the scope of the research is moderately expanded to the extent, at which, the surrounding environment influenced by Zhongzhimen building groups is included, to discuss influence of built environment on culture type and the cultural inheritance thereof so as to call peoples’ attention to and re-understanding of historical architectural culture in the area.This paper focuses on research of Dongzhimen buildings and presents the research results in digital means to restoration and drawings in the hope of making certain contribution to enriching basic data of Beijing City in Ming and Qing Dynasties and giving help in application for world cultural heritage of Beijing’s central axis line. |
