Transhipment of long-distance passenger transport (hereinafter referred to as TLPT) is a safe way of long-distance transportation. It means that the drivers of coach bus should take rest in suitable space, which have been selected in advance, and be replaced by other drivers sometimes who wait in joint points, and go on driving. With the development of high-speed and long-distance transportation in the area of scale and networked, and increasing attention on the safety operation of long-distance transportation all circles of the society, TLPT has developed rapidly. However TLPT in China is still in the early stage. The service area is limited to single route. What’s more, it has a negative impact on the economic benefits and transportation efficiency. In order to solve these problems above, this paper studies the characteristics of organization mode and driver’s number, and analyzes the various features of TLPT considering the minimum numbers of driver.Firstly, this paper expounds the related concepts and theories of TLPT, analyses the basic conditions and basic characteristics of TLPT, and also studies the superiority compared to the traditional mode of transportation organization.Secondly, this paper analyses the advantages of TLPT with respect to traditional transport organization mode, and then make a comparison of all kinds of TLPT. After that, the characteristics and influencing factors of organization modes of TLPT are studied. The problems existed in organization modes of TLPT are presented, and related proposals are designed.Considering on labor cost of TLPT, the paper builds a bi-objective model basing on the minimum cost of labour and the minimum number of drivers. In other way, it means the model basing on minimum number of drivers on single line and the model basing on minimum number of drivers in connection points. Finally the conclusion of this paper is that appropriate TLPT can reduce the cost of labour and improve economic performance with the example of TLPT through National Express Group.
