Abstract/Summary:
In the long human development, people always create various forms of urban space consciously or unconsciously. We set many kinds of standard and image to make it relation to what we hope it to be. However, we cannot help but ask that whether or not, this kind of conscious behavior itself is really the same as we expected, make our living space is getting better? For response to this ask, some researchers tries to explain the urban by study from urban cognitive which links to sociology research. Through their research, law of development and design experience in some cities are gradually, as we understand. However, more and more researchers noticed that most of these early researchers are qualitative phenomenon description limited by the discipline their studies since1980s。 So, the method of urban morphology has accepted by more and more researchers which based on quantitative analysis. The urban morphology basic point is form is:We have to understand the meanings of "shapes" before we study the index. However, a simplified representation of urban texture in just two-dimensions, which does not take into account the dimensional property of streets elevation(later referred to as’metric’), therefore, the topological representation of cities discards precious metric information and is rather limiting. Some researchers have attempted to add the information about the street skyline to study the street configuration,In addition, the city and the space is formed by real material usually, so we can’t design or analysis it just by cognition. Imagination and planning our city by setting the urban design index form the later of 19th. In this way, we thought that our city is "under control",however. we cannot say that we could imagination the truly shapes of the urban shapes even we design and planning it. The reason for this is that we still haven’t figured out the relationship between the shape of block spatial outline and urban design index. The paper taking the Nanjing as the research district, by describe the blocks silhouette which contains streetscape and skyline to study the relationship between the shape of block spatial outline and urban design index. Through calculate the index of silhouette based by its shape and to discuss the mechanism the index of urban design of blocks.
