Romanticism rose in the eighteenth century, and as a cultural movement, itinitiated the Modern Western consciousness. Modern consciousness of romanticism isdeparture from the attitudes and forms of classicism. Romanticism put forward criticismon reality, and seeking to resolve the social conflicts. Social reform of romanticismconceives and designs ideal urban spatial morphology. Nowadays, viewpoint ofromanticism is not out of date. Most importantly, there is an ideal of happiness amongin the romanticism, which exerted significant influence on the urban planning of thatperiod. The urban development and planning model that guided by the logos ofNational Happiness should draw lessons from the romanticism. This thesis discussesthe manifestation of the romanticism in the Urban spatial morphology,and proposes thefocal points in the Urban spatial morphology planning from the viewpoints ofromanticism as well as the National Happiness.This thesis consists of seven chapters:Chapter one points out the background, related researches, contents, significanceand the methods and frame of this thesis;Chapter two summarizes the conception of the relative theory, summarizeselements of national happiness index systems;Chapter three elaborates on connotation, formation mechanism, main features, andinfluences of romanticism, and this section is the main theory base;Chapter four summarizes characteristics of urban spatial morphology in twoperiods of romanticism. Summarizes fundamental design idea of romanticism, andcharacteristics of urban spatial morphology;Based on the above analysis, Chapter five analyses coupling of romanticism andnational happiness index systems, and summarizes consciousness, fundamentals anddesign strategy;Chapter six from the exploration of romanticism into the practice verification;Chapter seven puts forward the conclusion and the shortcomings of the thesis.
