Centrifugal pump is fluid machinery which has been widely applied in daily life and industry, the power consumption of various pumps is huge and increased year by year. However, the working efficiency of centrifugal pump in our country is generally low and the energy saving potential is enormous. The research of pump needs new breakthrough to save more energy.In recent years, CFD technology and optimization method have been widely applied in the centrifugal pump design, it can effectively simulate the internal flow and improve the performance of centrifugal pump. This paper has combined the CFD method with optimization method aiming at energy saving and making optimization for the pump PUN-400. The application of CFD and optimization method will have great guiding significance for the design of new pump, which will also offers an effective way to modification and shorten the developing cycle of turbo machine.The main work of this article is as follows:1. Introduced the CFD simulation technology as well as its application at home and abroad. Summarized the optimization design methods for the centrifugal pump.2. Use commercial code Pro-e to build the three-dimension model of PUN-400 centrifugal pump, which including the impeller, volute, import channel and exit route, then meshed the physical model and made corresponding adjustment to the grids with the software ICEM-CFD.3. Commercial CFD software CFX was used to calculate the steady simulation of whole flow field in nine different working conditions, analysis for the speed and pressure contours were taken.4. After comparing several calculation methods for the disk friction and volume loss of centrifugal pump, one suitable method was taken to correct the results that were got from simulation. Then the correction scheme was used to calculate the performance date of pump from the simulation. Compared with the experimental date, the results showed that the pump performance can be predicated by CFD software and have higher prediction accuracy in the design condition.5. Based on the simulation results, two optimization solutions were taken to improve the efficiency of the pump. In the first way, modification was taken from the impeller diameter to save energy. In the second way, the professional pump design software CFturbo was used to reshape the pump blades. After the optimization, numerical simulations were taken to check if the modification was successful, the results showed that energy were saved and the optimization purpose was achieved.
