CMF (Color/Material/Finishing) is the most direct perception of products for people, it is one of the most attractive area of product design. CMF is an important factor of product from simple model and concept to the actual production and real life. The color and surface treatment of materials dominated its visual features. Good ideas and modelling is merely become formality and concept without CMF. In design, color is the design elements to capture and convey feelings, materials and surface treatment is the treatment of refine our emotion. Good CMF design can make the products to meet consumer psychology better and attract more potential customers, then get success in the competitive market.The paper summarized the theory of kansei image and related theory of using in color, texture, surface treatment. At the same time to analyzed the existing design research and practice of CMF. Compared with the design process and method of CMF, combining with the actual situation of white household appliances of CMF design, the paper is set up design methods of white household appliances of CMF based on kansei image. And take an example of refrigerator applied to actual case.The paper is suggested design methods based on kansei image of white household appliances mainly includes four parts:decision-making stage, creative stage, design stage and implementation stage. It was mainly application the theory of kansei image, quantify user image during CMF design. Combined with the design knowledge for later design and finally evaluate validation. Through kansei image experiments on typical refrigerator in color, material and surface treatment, established corresponding perceptual image vocabulary an analyzed its relevance. Then analyzed the characteristics of white household appliances design of CMF through that most representative and typicality refrigerator samples collected by various channels. And made color, materials, surface texture samples without cognitive interference through the analysis of the elements of influence the perceptual image. Selection the high relevance representative image vocabulary of refrigerator decorator panel about perceptual image after sample made. Finally through the questionnaire to survey the perceptual image of each sample and statistical analysis, then get the relationships between each samples and each perceptual image.The paper uses white household appliances as research target and set up the CMF design method of white household appliances. Use the theory of kansei image as guidance, quantify the image of each element in design of CMF, facilitating the objective design for later. This increases accuracy greatly by combining quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis together, and by combining subjective testing and objective testing.
