As the development of substation to digital and networked, the smart substation has become a trend. The time synchronization model based on NTP protocol of the intelligent substation. It provides UTC time to the IED server and client application. This synchronization mode can satisfy the time requirement, but is lack of feedback in time error and equipment crash situation.This artical briefly introduces the intelligent substation, use NTP protocol, and combine with traditional time synchronization network requirements, analysis of the security of network time server hardware and software requirements, then figure out the hardware design and software system.In this article, a closed loop monitoring method will be found. It improved the original model, with minimal increase in complexity of monitoring function. At the same time, it effectively reduced the time synchronization error and crash, the NTP time service has become safe and reliable. Time server hardware scheme of AM335X TI development platform based design, with reference to the open source hardware design and selection. When connected with the global positioning system in the time server hardware, the time service function and security measurement function are achieved on embedded Linux operating system.Finally, through the Implementation of QT client on the time function test of the time server, the monitoring of the background program to monitor the time state, send the monitoring results could be achieved. The Implementation process of the whole scheme applies not only to the practice of the smart grid of time synchronization, but also has certain reference value to enhance the safety of traditional time network.
