The Quality Expression Of The Bricks On The Contemporary Architectural Surface

The contemporary economy, culture, art are in the stage of global development, words such as ’global village’,’urban-rural integration’ and ’one world’ are products of developmental convergence in various countries and regions. The growing tendency elicits features of territoriality and culture from people’s subjective consciousness and living needs became indistinct. The phenomenon reflects at the domain of architectural design, in terms of formative arts, material and construction technology that increase rapidly in benign competition between different countries. However, when buildings are formed into substances from similar culture creativity around the world, architects begin to introspect that the convergence turns into abuses instead.Bricks, as traditional but not outdated building material, have still been using for on behalf of territoriality and culture under the trend of globalization. Nevertheless, bricks are replaced by high-tech material gradually, so the use of proportion in contemporary architecture is decreasing. The constructive and spiritual characters of brick did not appear sufficiently in outer layer of constructions. The quality of construction conveys through two aspects, vision and space, the article aims at investigating in the visual aspect that how bricks present in outer layer of constructions adequately, so as to discuss strategies.The main part of this article has four chapters (chapter two to five). The forepart elaborates attribute characters of brick in terms of classification, measure, masonry and manufacturing process (chapter two), also explicates the origin, development and change of brick masonry in the history of architecture (chapter three). The constructive and spiritual characters of brick compare with common architectural material of the day in different expressions will be presented in the middle piece, and the discussing the translation between rational constructive and spiritual characters. In the last part, confront with the lack of emotional lexis in contemporary architecture, the article will objectively analyze the expressional posture of brick among them, and to solve problems in coping capacity of contemporary architecture (chapter four and five). The article aims to provide references for architects who are keen on brickwork design, along with explaining the brick was once brilliant but changed to low-spirited recently by means of the value of brick buildings, and then to the reason of why some local Chinese architects strive to use brickwork in contemporary architecture.
