In the contemporary of the rapid development of electronic media, visual culturegradually become the protagonist of the popular culture. At the same time, the pervasive ofconsumer culture is heading for the colored decadent atmosphere of the contemporary urban.In this social context, the research of the architectural surface is now becoming a morefamous study. New materials, new technologies has accelerated the development of it. Pop art,deconstructivism however, the appears of post-modernism broke the dualism of the originalarchitectural aesthetics, and leading to the diversified development of the art of contemporaryarchitectural surface, it also brings a diversification of the architectural surface aesthetic. Thispaper borrowing Arnheim analysis of visual perception and artistic point of view in-depthdiscussion on the aesthetic perception of the architectural surface. Trying to analyze the formof Visual Perception by analyzing the Visual Perception organizational principles of the varioustypes of architectural surface elements. Try to draw contemporary architecture on thearchitectural surface generally in the form of the system design techniques.The thesis is divided into five chapters, the first chapter will limit in the scope of thestudy of the architectural surface. Expound comprehensively the process of liberation of thearchitectural surface and a general introduction to the theory and previous studies researchneeds. The second chapter is the most central part of the thesis,inspired by the analysis of theart of painting by Arnheim, the author try to systematically expound the physiological andpsychological processes of the visual perception and aesthetics of the architectural surface.And in this psychological process，the effects of observer’s subjective factors and theobjective factors of the environmental or architectural surface. The followed-by chaptersanalyzed a large number of building instances, and the corresponding basic characteristics andthe organizational form of visual perception in the architectural surface. At the end of thepaper, concludes with a discussion guided by the analysis of visual perception in thearchitectural surface diversified development, including the design strategy of theperformance of emotional,context heritage and eco-conscious. Throughout the paper to takethe graphical analysis of a large number of buildings instance, intuitive and easy-to-understand way to illustrate the use of the theory of visual perception in the building skin.
