Research On Iron Tailings Sand In The Application Of Asphalt Mixture

With the rapid development of economy in our country, a lot of iron tail is consumed. Statistics showed that the storage capacity of iron tail in China is more than 10000 million tons up to 2012. The emissions reached 940 tons just in 2012, of which Liaoning province occupied 30%. As we all know, the accumulation of iron tail leads to environmental pollution and safety hazards, the reuse of it in road engineering will not only reduce pollution, but also decrease the need of gravel. In this paper, iron tail is applied to HMA by volume design.New method with iron tail for HMA design is raised based on the existing ones. The properties of HMA with iron tail is tested and put into practice by building test road. Results show that volume design with iron tail is easy to implement, HMA designed with this method can be applied to the surface of asphalt pavement to meet the properties of low level road, which contributes to the reuse of iron tail.
