Bulk concrete has been used in the infrastructure construction more often with the rapid development of science and technology and social productivity. Because of large volume of concrete, a large amount of hydration heat of cement in bulk concrete is not easy to dissipate which leads to the difference between internal and external temperature. Due to temperature and shrinkage stress caused by temperature difference, the crack will appear in the concrete and affect constructions’ appearance quality and service life.The main purpose of this paper is to prevent or reduce the structural cracks caused by hydration heat of cement in bulk concrete construction process. According to the variation of temperature and stress in bulk concrete, the plan will be proposed to control cracks which could ensure the construction quality and prolong service life.This paper is based on the project about temperature control of bulk concrete which is used in bearing platform of Wenchang Bridge’s NO. 2 pier column in Weifang coastal economic development zone. In this paper, the variation of internal temperature and stress in bulk concrete and the effect of temperature control approaches have been studied. By the analysis of witnessed inspections data and temperature control methods of Wenchang Bridge’s bulk concrete bearing platform, temperature stress, cracks cause and control of bulk concrete have been researched in terms of ingredients, match ratio and construction technology of concrete. Some guidance will be expected in similar projects to reduce or prevent temperature cracks of bulk concrete.
