As the middle school education mode has been changing all the time, the traditional campus environment already cannot satisfy the middle school students’ life and learning needs. The design of the middle school campus outdoor environment should meet the parents’ and school workers’ basic demand of students’ safety, keeping up with time. Starting with the perspective of safety, designers should define the safety factors of middle school campus clearly, analyze teenagers’ psychological, physiological and behavior characteristics, and finally carry on an integrated design of landscape and safety in middle school campus environment. Designing the whole or partial campus environment through the command of landscape elements, for example, the scale, the construction, the material, and so on, it can control the campus safety issues and improve the feasibility of middle school campus environment landscape.The research object of this paper is the integrated design of landscape and safety in middle school campus environment, and from the angle of theory and practice, the research aims at putting forward design strategies on both landscape and safety sides for middle school environment construction, to make it better to meet the needs of campus users. This paper begins with expounding the features and development tendency of middle school education, and then, the analysis of the campus users’physiology, psychology and behavior. This paper also tries to clear the important position of campus environment in the middle school education system and the positive impact to campus users. These can provide more scientific and rational basis for the middle school campus environment design.Middle school campus environment is the main body of this paper, the ultimate aim of its master planning and detail design is to build practical and campus space with pleasant atmosphere. Based on the connotation and characteristics of middle school campus environment, the paper divides campus environment into six major categories, including traffic space, square space, courtyard space, sports venues, campus green space, and construction subsidiary space. At the same time, the paper extracts the landscape elements in the campus environment, to build a middle school campus environment design framework, and make the design of the campus environment more organized and hierarchical.Safety science is to study safety state in which people can keep their body and mind from external factors’ harm, as well as the nature of the safety conditions and its change rule. In combination with accident cause theory, safety behavior theory and safety risk theory in safety science, this paper divides safety factors in middle school campus into external and internal factors The external factors mainly include two aspects of natural factors and social factors, and the internal factors are born in campus environment itself and its users. The designers of middle school campus environment need to understand all factors’ forms clearly, so that they can be targeted to solve issues that may occur in campus with landscape design strategies.According to the analysis of middle school education, campus users, and middle school campus environment safety factors in this paper, the integrated design of landscape and safety in middle school campus should start from the middle school education characteristics and the needs of users, considering the campus users’ physiology, psychological and behavior characteristics, combining the campus safety factors and the landscape elements organically, to make the campus environment to be more practical, ornamental and safe, so as to better service for the campus users.This paper selects Chengdu Sanyuan Foreign Languages School as an experimental case for studying. The work in early stage was mainly field trips, including questionnaire survey, interview and observation on campus users, as well as observation, photography and surveying and mapping on campus environment, to understand the demands of users and the data of campus environment present situation from experimental case. The mission in medium stage are organizing the investigation results, analyzing issues qualitatively, understanding middle school campus environment more deeply with existing theoretical knowledge, and concluding integrated design strategies of landscape and safety that corresponds with the whole campus. The work in late stage was to make theoretical results into practice, putting update design for experimental case into effect, implementing feedback survey on design and construction repeatedly, and verifying rationality and feasibility of the theory research results through practice.
