Port is an important infrastructure for the economic development of Haixi, and the port machine is the core equipment of the port. The port machinery got unprecedented development in recent years, the structure is tend to be maximization and specialization. Metal structure is an important part of port machinery, which is the basis of the machinery. The safety performance of metal structure determines the safety performance and service life of the machine in a certain extent. How to correctly appraise the safety performance of port portal crane, become a port enterprise managers need to solve the problem urgently. Study the safety assessment method of metal structure, become important guiding significance and great engineering application value of port equipment management.Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a hierarchical weighted decision analysis method from network system theory and multi-objective comprehensive evaluation method. The analytic hierarchy process and the constructing weight methods is systematically studied in the paper. The feasibility of the AHP used in the crane safety performance Evaluation is studied combined with the characteristics of the crane metal structure.According to the crane structure characteristics, the port gantry crane metal structure safety performance evaluation system is established.combined with the AHP. The metal structure is divided into several subsystems in the port gantry crane safety performance evaluation process:the boom system, the gantry system, beam-balanced system and other metal structure systems. A number of components are contained in each system. The performance value of the component is studied, and then the performance value of subsystems, finally the performance value of the whole metal structure.The metal structure is divided into two categories according to the presence of structural defects: the normal components and the fault components. The design indexes are carried out for normal components in the safety performance evaluation, such as strength, stiffness, stability evaluation. the analysis of all kinds of fault is carried out for the fault components in the safety performance evaluation, such as weld defects, cracks, deformation, corrosion. The data acquisition, judge index and the valuation method of the normal component of and fault components are detailed studied.the constructing weight methods of judgment matrix for the normal components and penaltical variable weight for the fault components are carried out for the outstanding of the fault components affect.The safety performance evaluation is studied used crane metal structure safety performance evaluation system, which is established in the paper, the feasibility and veracity of the system are verified. the port gantry crane has been used for 18 years, the safety evaluation value is 0.788. The Safety State of the metal structure is in general. The necessary reinforcement should be done in the metal structure crack zone and weak zone, and the monitoring should be strengthened in the usual maintenance.
